What kind of laptop will our school need to broadcast SD or HD events?

School may provide its own laptop, or choose to purchase a laptop and a video capture device from the NFHS Network for a one-time fee of $1,500.  The Producer software is PC-based and requires a laptop that meets the following specs:

 

Standard definition (SD) broadcasts: 

  • Video camera 
  • Video Capture Device
  • PC Laptop that meets the following requirements
    • Operating system: Windows 7, 8, or 10
    • Processor: Intel i5 or i7 Processor at 2.4 Ghz or faster
    • Memory: minimum 3 GB of RAM
    • Hard drive: 160 GB or better at 7200 rpm

 

High definition (HD) broadcasts: 

  • HD video camera 
  • Video Capture Device: Startech USB3HDCAP USB 3.0
  • PC laptop that meets the minimum specs (the laptop availabe for purchase from the NFHS Network is HD compatible):
    • Operating system: Windows 7, 8, or 10
    • Processor: Intel i7 Processor – Quad Core 2.7 Ghz Turbo with 8 threads (logic processors)
    • Memory: minimum 8 GB of RAM
    • Hard drive: 160 GB solid state hard drive (SSD) or 500 GB SATA Hard Drive
  • OR any third party streaming devices currently supported:
    • Tricaster
    • Wirecast
    • Livestream
  • Hardline Internet connection with at least 6 Mbps upload speed
  • New Event Manager (Console)
  • Latest build of HD Producer

Compression Adaptive bitrate streaming downgrades quality when inadequate Internet is detected 846 kbps
